Iwobi Delighted After Netting Winning Spot Kick In Gunners Win Against Chelsea


Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was happy to score the winning penalty as Arsenal beat Chelsea in a pre-season encounter played on Wednesday, August 1.

Iwobi kept his calm to score the winning penalty in the International Champions Cup (ICC) fixture as Arsenal beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes.

The Gunners fell behind through a powerful header by Antonio Rudiger in the fifth minute when he headed in a Cesc Fabregas corner.

Alexandre Lacazette however equalised for Arsenal with the last kick of the game in normal time when he converted a cross by Reiss Nelson in the 93rd minute.

Alex Iwobi was not named among the starting eleven by new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

Arsenal went into the break a goal down even though they created several chances and the more dominant side.

Iwobi was however introduced into the encounter in the 63rd minute when he replaced youngster Emile Smith Rowe. He had a chance to score but fluffed his lines, he however went on to be the hero for the Gunners as he scored the winning penalty after Ruben Loftus-Cheek missed his spot kick.

He took to his Instagram account to show his delight about his achievement with a message that said, “More Minutes Tonight & Happy To Score The Winning Pen  ⚽️ Thanks For All Your Support Ireland!      #AFC.”
