Liverpool continuing their fine start in this early part of new Premier League season as they grabbed another three points this weekend after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley.
The tie was staged as part of both teams’ upcoming tough schedule, notably for Jurgen Klopp’s men, but that condition doesn’t seem to fear them as they put on an aggressive display straight from kick off.
Playing with high confidence, Liverpool looking more dangerous, despite not completely dominating the first 45 minutes as both teams seem very cautious with their approach.
Klopp’s men finally got the break through on 39 minutes through Georginio Wijnaldum’s header, which found its way to beat Spurs’ second goal keeper, Michel Vorm.
Both teams continue their search for goals after the break, but continuous clumsy and lethargic display from Tottenham players made things much easier for Liverpool as they eventually doubled their lead with another scrappy goal, this time it was netted by Roberto Firmino.
The home team only came to life when Erik Lamela entered the pitch, but his presence was just not long enough as he only managed to pull one goal back in stoppage time for his side.
There were simply not enough time for Pochettino’s men to get that precious equalizing goal as Liverpool holding into their slender lead until the final whistle was blown.
