Tottenham Crashed Out of Champions League, City Through Despite Loss

Tottenham Hotspur saw their slim away goals advantage in the Champions League over Juventus wiped out in matter of minutes as the Premier League side were beaten by their Italian’s counterpart at Wembley.

Heading into the tie with strong confidence after grabbing a 2-2 draw away from home, Spurs looking bright and dominated proceedings since kick off, creating most of the chances.

After several misses that they probably rues in the end, Mauricio Pochettino’s men got themselves in front through Son Heung-Min’s scuffed shot from inside the penalty area.

The Lilywhites carried that slender lead going into half time break and continue to look comfortable early in the second period, despite seemingly lowering their aggressive attacking play.

However, Juve showed their experience as they didn’t need much chances to score with Gonzalo Higuain netting home from his side’s first shot on goal.

That equalizing goal shocked Spurs’ players as minutes later they suddenly found themselves 2-1 behind after another poor defensive play allowed Paulo Dybala a free space before calmly finishing over Hugo Lloris.

Despite their efforts in getting into the tie, late substitutions made by Pochettino didn’t give his team enough momentum in getting back into the match.

In other tie, Manchester City picked up a 2-1 home defeat against Basel, but that don’t matter much for Pep Guardiola’s men since they already won 4-0 in the first leg away from home.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring for City, but the Swiss champion bounced back with two goals from Mohammed Elyounoussi and Michael Lang.

It’s to be noted that the Premier League runaway leader are resting some of their main players on the night.
