Controversy Brews as Carter Efe Accuses D’banj, Sunday Are of ‘Fake’ Car Presentation

Popular Nigerian content creator and streamer, Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, professionally known as Carter Efe, has sparked a major controversy in the entertainment industry after alleging that the luxury vehicle publicly presented to him by Afrobeats legend D’banj was a farce.

The skit maker claimed that despite the widespread media publicity surrounding the presentation, the car was never handed over to him. Instead, he was allegedly hit with a multi-million naira demand before he could take possession of the vehicle.

The ₦65 Million Demand

The brewing scandal came to light following a video circulating online, where Carter Efe detailed the aftermath of the highly publicized event. According to the comedian, the reality of the gift contrasted sharply with what was broadcast to the public.

He revealed that he was later informed he would have to pay a staggering ₦65 million to officially claim the vehicle.

Expressing his shock over the development, Carter Efe maintained that he never solicited a vehicle from the music star in the first place.

“They didn’t give me any car," Carter Efe stated in the video. "D’banj whined [tricked] me. He didn’t give me a motor. That motor he gave me is an 'audio' motor. He told me to pay 65 million naira before he could give me the car."

"Audio" is a popular Nigerian slang term used to describe promises or assets that exist only in words or on social media, but never materialize in reality.

Sunday Are Implicated

The content creator did not spare veteran media manager and music executive Sunday Are, accusing him of bad faith and complicity in the situation. Carter Efe alleged that Are offered him deceptive counsel during subsequent discussions, which he believes was a calculated attempt to silence him and protect the image of those involved.

“Sunday Are too was doing as if he was advising me, whereas he was just cajoling me not to spoil their plan," Carter Efe alleged. "They gave me a useless car. I didn’t beg you to give me a car.”

Contrasting Experiences

In his outburst, the visibly upset streamer contrasted D'banj’s alleged gesture with the generosity of billionaire businessman Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, whom he praised for giving him financial gifts without any strings attached.

“Me that E-Money gifted money for free," he added, before issuing a harsh warning to the duo. "If I swear for D’banj and Sunday Are, they might not see tomorrow.”

As of the time of this report, neither D’banj nor Sunday Are has issued an official response to the heavy allegations.
