Oshiomhole Demands Arrest of Mele Kyari Over Alleged Trillion-Naira Fraud

Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole has demanded the immediate arrest of Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), over allegations of multi-trillion naira corruption and financial misconduct.

Speaking during a Senate committee session, Oshiomhole urged lawmakers to exercise their constitutional powers without delay. The former Edo State governor insisted that the committee must summon the courage to issue an arrest warrant today, compelling Kyari to personally answer for his stewardship.

"Dead or alive, in law, even if he is dead, we want to see the body and say, ‘Here lies a man who died without accounting for his alleged crimes running into trillions of naira,’" Oshiomhole stated, condemning Kyari's failure to address critical audit queries while allegedly traveling to Germany for medical treatment.

Emphasizing that Nigeria cannot tolerate unaccounted revenues while heavily relying on foreign loans, the lawmaker declared that Kyari cannot send a representative. Furthermore, Oshiomhole called for a sweeping probe, demanding arrest warrants for both past and present NNPCL leadership for their shared "total disregard" for the Nigerian Constitution.
