Veteran Yoruba actor and pastor, Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has died at the age of 66.

Naija Brain learnt that the veteran actor died on Monday after a brief illness.

His death was confirmed by filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry.

Adeshina was a respected figure in the Yoruba film industry for more than two decades, earning acclaim for his portrayal of kings, chiefs, elders and other traditional characters in indigenous productions.

Renowned for his command of the Yoruba language and performances in culturally rich epic films, he became a familiar face among lovers of classic Yoruba cinema.

His popular stage name, Elegbeje Ado, was derived from one of his early movie roles and eventually became the name by which he was widely known in the industry.

In the later years of his career, Adeshina devoted more attention to Christian ministry and gospel filmmaking. He combined acting with preaching and was involved in faith-based productions, including a gospel project titled Egberun Odun.

The late actor had also spoken publicly about challenges within the movie industry, including alleged pressure to join secret cults, maintaining that he rejected such influences and remained committed to his Christian faith.
