Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has broken his silence following the passing of his colleague, Alex Ekubo, explaining that his initial public absence was due to an inability to find the words to express his grief.

Ekubo tragically passed away at the age of 40 following a prolonged illness and complications from advanced kidney cancer.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on his official Instagram page, Arukwe reflected on his relationship with the late actor, recalling their first meeting on the set of filmmaker Dabby Chimere. He described Ekubo as a warm, accommodating gentleman who lacked pretense.

"I’ve been quiet. And I know some people wondered why I didn’t post, why I didn’t say anything... The truth is, I didn’t know what to say," Arukwe wrote. "Some losses don’t meet you online first; they sit with you quietly. They make you shake your head and say, 'Mba… not this person. Not Alex.' You replay the memories and hope someone will call to say there has been a mistake."

Arukwe further noted that hearing testimonies from those who knew Ekubo intimately had humbled him, serving as a reminder of what truly matters in life.

"It reminded me that at the end of it all, people won’t only remember our talent or our achievements. They will remember our kindness. They will remember how we treated people," he stated. "Not every goodbye needs a post. Some are carried in prayer. Some are carried in memories. Some are carried in the heart."

The Nigerian film industry continues to mourn the loss of Ekubo, with colleagues and fans offering condolences to his family.
