Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan has shared one of the unusual rules behind his movie-making process, revealing that Ugg boots are strictly banned between takes on his film sets.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Oppenheimer director explained that the popular sheepskin boots disrupt the immersive atmosphere he works to create during filming. According to Nolan, seeing actors in modern footwear makes it harder for everyone to remain mentally connected to the world of the story.
The rule also applies to the cast of his upcoming epic, The Odyssey, where actors wearing historical costumes are expected to stay in character even during breaks. Nolan compared slipping into Uggs between scenes to breaking the spell of a performance, saying he wants actors to remain fully invested from start to finish.
Despite the strict policy, the Oscar-winning director admitted he has nothing against the footwear itself. In fact, he revealed that actress Emily Blunt once gifted him a pair. Still, when the cameras are rolling, Nolan believes every detail matters—including what's on an actor's feet.
