Nigerian Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML has revealed how a seemingly harmless Instagram post caused panic among his family after he shared a photo of himself holding a cigarette in his mouth.
Speaking during an appearance on the Afrobeats Podcast, the singer explained that he posted the image on his Instagram Story as part of a showbiz moment.
However, the post immediately raised concerns among his family members, who reacted in their WhatsApp group.
According to Fireboy, his mother became emotional and started crying after seeing the picture, forcing him to reassure his family that the cigarette was only part of his presentation.
The singer said he had to explain that there was no reason to panic because the image was intended as a showbiz stunt.
However, the ‘Vibration’ crooner admitted that despite initially telling his family that the cigarette was only for show, he eventually smoked it.
Fireboy said:
“I posted a snippet on my Instagram Story while holding a cigarette in my mouth, and my whole family started crashing out in the WhatsApp group. My mom was crying, and I had to explain to them that it was just showbiz. I later smoked it sha, I can’t lie.”
