Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML has opened up about the frightening experiences he encountered after relocating to Lagos in pursuit of his music career.
The singer recalled that his early days in the city left him terrified, as he witnessed disturbing incidents that made it difficult to adjust to life in Lagos.
Naija Brain reports that Fireboy, speaking during a recent livestream, said he saw someone run mad, encountered dead bodies and witnessed cult-related activities within his first few weeks in the city.
He also admitted that the appearance of some Lagos residents initially frightened him.
According to the singer, however, he refused to give up on his dream and eventually adapted to the city and its lifestyle.
“I was so scared the first time I came to Lagos in 2016, in Surulere. People’s eyes were so red, and they looked scary. In two weeks, I saw someone run mad, dead bodies and cultists. Now, I also look like those scary people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fireboy DML has also revealed how a post on his Instagram Story caused panic among members of his family after he shared a photo of himself with a cigarette in his mouth.
Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast, the singer explained that he posted the image as part of a showbiz moment.
However, the post reportedly caused concern among his family members, who immediately reacted in their WhatsApp group.
Fireboy said his mother became emotional and started crying after seeing the image, forcing him to explain that the cigarette was part of his presentation and was not intended to cause alarm.
The ‘Vibration’ crooner, however, admitted that although he initially told his family it was only an act, he eventually smoked the cigarette.
“I posted a snippet on my Instagram Story while holding a cigarette in my mouth, and my whole family started crashing out in the WhatsApp group. My mom was crying, and I had to explain to them that it was just showbiz. I later smoked it, sha; I can’t lie,” he said.
