Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing is emotional as she prepares to achieve a major milestone in her acting career.
The actress, who has spent over a decade in the Nigerian film industry, is yet to feature in a cinema movie. However, that is set to change in December, as she makes her long-awaited cinema debut in two highly anticipated films, The Secret Life of Baba Sege and The Figurines.
Nkechi recalled how a blogger once insulted her by questioning how many cinema movies she had featured in. She revealed that the remark came from an attack by one of her colleagues, although she chose not to disclose the person’s identity.
The actress, who has since turned a new leaf, noted that she has faced numerous challenges throughout her career. However, she said God has continued to come through for her because she has refused to give up.
“I just wrapped up on set about 20 minutes ago, and I’ve been thinking about how far I’ve come. I’m actually going to be in movies coming to cinemas, and it’s with one of the top filmmakers, Mo Abudu. Honestly, how did all of this happen?
I remember when Stella Dimoko Korkus insulted me and asked, ‘How many cinema movies have I done?’ That was an attack from someone close to me through her, but that’s a story for another day.
I’ve been through a lot in this industry, but God has continued to see me through because I refused to give up.
I don’t want to tear up or get emotional, but so many things have been going through my mind. It just shows that so many things can change as long as you don’t give up.
I want to sincerely thank every single person who sat in that room and mentioned my name for that script. I got the role, I shot the movie, and I was paid heavily — I mean, millions of naira.”
Just a day ago, Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday reflected on her journey in the entertainment industry as she shared a throwback photo of herself, noting that all she could see was growth.
The actress admitted that she is still a work in progress and has yet to reach the level she hopes to attain, but she remains grateful for how far she has come.
Naija Brain reported in March that Nkechi announced her inclusion in the cast of renowned filmmaker Mo Abudu’s upcoming project, The Secret Life of Baba Segi’s Wives.
Speaking about the opportunity, Nkechi said she initially struggled to believe that she had been selected for the project. According to her, it felt like a dream until she eventually met Mo Abudu.
The actress also shared photos of herself receiving her script and penned an emotional message to her late mother. She described being cast in the project as a major milestone in her career and admitted that she could barely contain her excitement.
Nkechi further told her fans to prepare to get tired of seeing her as she immersed herself in preparations for the movie, while promising to save her speech until its release.
Reflecting further on her career journey, the actress credited her colleague, Mercy Aigbe, with playing a major role in her rise to stardom. Nkechi revealed that a movie she featured in with the AMVCA-winning actress helped transform her career, appreciating Aigbe for recognising the star in her and giving her room to shine.
Last year, Nkechi also became emotional after signing what she described as a life-changing, multimillion-naira deal. She attributed her success to God and maintained that delay is not denial.
According to the actress, she was initially expected to sign the deal in February, but circumstances delayed the process. She, however, remained grateful that the opportunity eventually came through.
In another post, Nkechi credited God for her achievements, declaring that she is nothing without Him as she made what she described as the biggest decision of her life.
The light-skinned actress has also had moments when the pressures of the industry became overwhelming. At one point, she broke down in tears on social media after accusing a woman of attempting to tarnish her brand.
Nkechi, while defending herself, reminded her critics that she is human and has emotions. She also insisted that she has no other means of livelihood and was not the type to sleep with men to make a living.
Meanwhile, the actress has previously called out some of her colleagues for charging as much as N3 million to feature in movies but failing to promote the projects afterward. She warned that she would not hesitate to take matters to the police if anyone crossed her boundaries and urged those who had issues with her to stay away.
Late last year, Nkechi also revealed that she was considering quitting movie production. She claimed to have spent more than N80 million producing films but said she had yet to recoup even N1 million from the investments.
