2027: Opposition parties to field single presidential candidate — Turaki

Kabiru Tanimu-Turaki, a factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that opposition political parties in Nigeria have agreed to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Turaki made the declaration on Saturday at the National Opposition Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where leaders of various political parties met to deliberate on strategies ahead of the next election cycle.

According to him, the decision is aimed at boosting the opposition’s chances at the polls, despite what he described as efforts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to position President Bola Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate in 2027.

He said the opposition remained determined to challenge the ruling party and would not be discouraged by what he called “onslaughts and machinations” allegedly designed to weaken opposition participation.

“Despite the onslaughts and machinations of the ruling party, the APC, to ensure that President Bola Tinubu emerges as the sole presidential candidate in 2027, we shall field candidates and contest the 2027 presidential and other elections,” he stated.

Turaki further revealed that opposition parties had resolved to unite behind one presidential candidate, describing the move as a collective effort to rescue the country and ease the suffering of Nigerians.

“We shall work towards fielding one presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. We shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties to rescue our nation and our long-suffering masses,” he added.
