Popular Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, known as AY, has shared details about the final moments of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo.
According to NAIJABRAIN POST, Ekubo passed away at a hospital in Lagos on Monday, May 11, 2026, following a prolonged battle with cancer.
He was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer in 2024, underwent a transplant, but suffered a relapse in 2026 when his liver failed again. He later died from complications shortly after being placed on life support.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, AY—who was reportedly present at the hospital—said Ekubo was smiling at the moment of his passing.
“Some losses do not feel real no matter how many times you try to process them… I was there. I saw you still smiling even in death,” he wrote, expressing shock and grief while reflecting on their shared memories and friendship.
Meanwhile, Ekubo’s friend, Godwin Nnadiekwe, revealed that the actor had already prepared his will before his death. Sharing his reaction on Instagram, he wrote: “To think you already prepared your will… it’s a heartbreak I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend.”
