Nigerian entertainment lawyer and executive, Oyinkansola "Foza" Fawehinmi, has revealed that her team reviewed more than 5,000 tweets aimed at trolling and harassing singer Simi. Speaking on the JayOnairLive show, Foza condemned the relentless cyberbullying directed at Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold, particularly highlighting the cruelty of targeting the singer during her pregnancy.
"The goal of this sustained harassment was to break Simi down and make her a shadow of herself," Foza stated, emphasizing that as a legal representative, she would not tolerate such behavior against a pregnant client.
Foza also distinguished between defamation and harassment, noting that while defamation usually involves isolated false statements, harassment is a prolonged, coordinated campaign. She warned that online bullying has massive real-world consequences, especially for celebrities whose brand partnerships are immediately jeopardized by negative trends.
Ultimately, she raised alarms over the rise of toxic cyberbullying in Nigeria's entertainment scene, pointing out that anonymity and social media monetization have only incentivized trolls to escalate their harmful behavior.
