Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage claims that until she left Mavin Records, she was unaware of the record label's significance to an artist's mental health.
Tiwa Savage signed with Universal Music Group after leaving Mavin Records in 2019, according to Naija Brain.
Savage has insisted that Mavin is still a member of her family even after he left the label.
However, Tiwa Savage stated that an artist's mental health and well-being are greatly influenced by the record company they are signed to on a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast with Joey Akan.
Recalling her previous experiences at Mavin Records, Tiwa Savage stated that she no longer has the same privileges at her current record label, but she used to confide in Don Jazzy, the label boss, and her labelmates during difficult times.
It's crucial for artists to determine whether the label they are signing to values them or views them as profit-making machines, she continued.
"Who you signed to is very important, and I didn't appreciate it until after I left Mavin," she remarked. I would rush to Don Jazzy's room whenever there was an internet controversy, sit on the floor or bed with other Mavin performers, and we would discuss it. If I had to cry, I would, and we would overcome it.
However, since you have a [foreign] label, they don't give a damn about your personal belongings. I can't really go to the Empire office and cry, then. I miss that aspect of it.
