Nafisat, the estranged wife of popular Yoruba actor Akin Olaiya, has accused him of domestic violence and mistreatment, days after he publicly announced the end of their marriage.

She made the allegations in a viral video on Wednesday while responding to the actor’s statement on the collapse of their union.

Naija Brain had earlier reported that Olaiya disclosed the breakdown of the marriage, claiming that Nafisat left their matrimonial home without informing him and that efforts to reconcile had proved unsuccessful.

Reacting to the claim, Nafisat confirmed that the marriage had indeed ended but rejected the actor’s version of events.

According to her, she left the relationship just months after their wedding due to alleged domestic abuse and emotional trauma.

“I left my marriage because I was in pain and felt mistreated. I felt like I did not matter. Nobody should remain in a home where there is violence,” she said.

Nafisat also revealed that they had been separated for a long time, contrary to public assumptions.

“The discussions on social media about the divorce are true. My husband and I have not been together for a long time, since last year,” she stated.

Questioning claims that she abandoned the marriage without cause, she said there were circumstances unknown to the public.

“How can a woman simply pack her belongings and leave without a reason? When there is violence and other issues people do not know about, it changes everything. I expected a lot from my ex-husband because he is older than me,” she said.

While maintaining that she experienced challenges in the marriage, Nafisat said she would not disclose all the details publicly.

“There is a significant age gap between us, yet many things were going wrong. However, I will never come online to reveal the core issues in my marriage. That is something I will not do on social media,” she added.

She further argued that it was misleading to suggest she left the marriage without any provocation.

“It does not make sense to say that I simply packed my things and left without any issues. That is not possible. People should think about it and ask themselves whether that narrative makes sense,” she said.

Olaiya had earlier announced the end of the marriage, stating that several attempts to resolve their differences had failed.

The actor claimed that Nafisat left their matrimonial home and remained unwilling to return despite interventions by family members and multiple reconciliation efforts.
