"Government Has Failed Us All"—Mr P Says Celebrities Can’t Single-Handedly Save Nigeria

Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, famously known as Mr P, has hit back at the frequent demands for celebrities to lead the fight against the country's systemic crises. Speaking in an interview with a Lagos-based radio station, the former P-Square co-headliner stressed that fixing Nigeria requires collective citizen action rather than relying solely on public figures.

Addressing his previous, controversial stance to stay out of national discourse, Mr P offered an apology, acknowledging the stark reality dividing public figures from ordinary Nigerians.

"I apologise for saying I won’t concern myself with Nigeria’s challenges anymore," he stated. "I may have security agencies guiding me, but not everyone can afford it. This is our country; it is only us who can bring positive changes."

He urged Nigerians to stop directing their frustrations toward entertainers and expecting them to spearhead protests against insecurity, economic hardship, and bad governance.

"Celebrities alone can’t save Nigeria," Mr P argued. "All those clamouring for celebrities to speak up against bad governance should redirect their energy. It is not a matter of celebrities. This government has failed us all. But together, we can bring the desired change."
