It Annoyed Me – Nkem Owoh Reveals How He Was Mocked When Asked To Pray

Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh has opened up about the bittersweet side of being a comedy legend, revealing that his onscreen persona often makes it hard for people to take him seriously in real life.

Speaking in a recent interview with Selah Meditate, Owoh shared that fans are so conditioned to laugh at him that they even chuckle during serious moments. He recalled an uncomfortable incident at a gathering where he was asked to lead a opening prayer.

“I just said, ‘In Jesus’ name,’ and people were suppressing laughter and all that," Owoh revealed. "It annoyed me because I don’t joke with my prayers.”

Beyond the struggles of his personal fame, the iconic thespian also took a swipe at the current state of Nollywood, specifically the trend of producers casting social media influencers over trained actors.

He firmly argued that online popularity can never substitute for genuine acting ability. "There is no way social-media fame can replace real talent," he stated, emphasizing that true screen presence cannot be manufactured by follower counts.
