Nigerian music mogul Michael Collins Ajereh, famously known as Don Jazzy, recently opened up about his past struggles with romance, revealing that high school rejection left a lasting impression on him—so much so that he later went searching for the girls who turned him down.
Speaking on the Keeping It Real With Jima podcast, the Mavin Records boss confessed that being constantly rejected by girls during his secondary school days took a psychological toll on him well into adulthood.
“I wasn’t good-looking during my secondary school days," Don Jazzy admitted. "Thank God for music because back then I was constantly being rejected by girls. But after I became successful, I went back to look for all the girls who rejected me. But almost all of them were already married.”
Expanding the Search: Is East Africa Next?
Having missed his chance with his teenage crushes, the music executive is now looking beyond Nigerian borders for a life partner, playfully setting his sights on East Africa.
During a recent lighthearted Instagram Q&A, a fan labeled the producer an “African treasure” who belongs to the entire continent rather than just Nigeria. Embracing the compliment, Don Jazzy joked about his deep connection to various African nations and hinted at where he might find "the one."
The Global Connection: He noted that he often feels a kinship with Ghana, South Africa, and Uganda (despite never visiting the latter).
The New Target: He teased that if Nigeria doesn't yield a wife, Uganda or Tanzania might be his next stops.
The Appeal: He added that he has heard wonderful things about the women from those regions.
“I heard that the babes there are nice," he joked to his fans. "If you are from Uganda and you are a babe, do you girls like me there? Maybe I should come to Uganda since I did not find a wife in Nigeria. Maybe I should go and find a wife in Uganda or Tanzania.”
