Kwankwaso, Obi Meet in Abuja to Discuss National and Party Issues
In a move aimed at reinforcing party cohesion and addressing pressing national concerns, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Governor of Kano State, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, hosted the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, at his private residence in Abuja on Friday.
The high-profile meeting, which has generated significant political interest, was made public by Kwankwaso through an official statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday morning.
According to Kwankwaso, the gathering served as a welcome-back reception for Obi, who recently returned from what was described as a highly successful and productive international tour. Beyond the pleasantries, however, the interaction quickly transitioned into a strategic session focusing on critical internal party dynamics and the broader socio-political landscape of the nation.
“Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting my brother and partner, His Excellency Peter Obi, at my residence in Abuja,” Kwankwaso stated. “I warmly welcomed him back from his highly productive international trip, and we engaged in frank and productive discussions on key partisan and national issues.”
A Call for Internal Cohesion The meeting comes at a crucial time for the NDC, as political observers closely watch the party's internal alignment ahead of future electoral cycles. Addressing latent rumors of friction within the party's top echelon, Kwankwaso used the opportunity to project a solid, united front. He strongly dismissed assertions of division, maintaining that while diverse viewpoints exist, the leadership remains bound by a singular vision.
In a direct appeal to the party’s stakeholders, the former Kano governor emphasized that navigating political differences requires a high level of statesmanship. He urged members to prioritize the collective interest over personal grievances.
“Our party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), remains united. As leaders, we must continue to demonstrate maturity by making the necessary sacrifices and tolerating our differences in pursuit of our shared goal,” Kwankwaso added, concluding with the party's reassuring slogan: “We are resolute in this mission, and together, we shall ensure that Nigeria is OK.”
