The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that veteran Nollywood actor Benedict Johnson is currently hospitalized and scheduled to undergo surgery for an undisclosed medical condition.
The announcement follows widespread public concern sparked by a viral video showing the actor undergoing an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, AGN National President Abubakar Yakubu reassured the public that the guild’s leadership is fully aware of Johnson's health challenges and is actively intervening.
"Yes, he is ill. Actually, he is ill and requires surgery," Yakubu stated. "The guild is aware, and we are lending our full support to ensure that he undergoes this surgery."
Yakubu emphasized that the AGN has committed to providing the necessary institutional and financial support to ensure a successful procedure and recovery for the actor.
Johnson, an alumnus of Abia State University, is a recognized pioneer in the Nigerian film industry. He began his entertainment career as a recording artist in the late 1980s before transitioning to acting, where he featured in foundational Nollywood classics such as Living in Bondage and Stolen Bible.
