Obasa Denies Sponsoring Post-Primary Protests in Lagos APC

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has strongly denied any involvement in the protests trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) legislative primaries in Lagos State. Describing the allegations as "unfair, misleading, and baseless," Obasa warned individuals and groups against using his name to stir up political tension or division within the ruling party.

The Allegations and the Protests

The controversy escalated after a wave of demonstrations hit the APC state secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja. Members from several Local Government Areas (LGAs)—including Badagry, Mushin, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, and Oshodi-Isolo—flocked to the headquarters to allege irregularities in the conduct and outcome of the primaries.

Amid the unrest, viral WhatsApp messages accused the Speaker of distributing ₦2 billion to fund and coordinate these statewide demonstrations.

"Foolhardy and Malicious" — Obasa Reacts

Dismissing the claims entirely, Obasa pointed out the lack of logic in the accusations, noting that he was not even a candidate in the disputed elections.

“It is foolhardy, malicious, misleading, and baseless for anybody to assume or imply that I will import or mobilise protesters from different local governments to the secretariat. To achieve what exactly? I am not a candidate in the disputed election, so why and how will I devote such an amount of money to organising protests?”

A Call for Unity

Reiterating his loyalty to the party's leadership, the Speaker emphasized that his primary focus remains on the stability, discipline, and progress of the Lagos APC.

  • Commitment to Peace: Obasa stated that he abhors the use of his name or office to sow division or promote illegalities.

  • Call to Action: He urged all party stakeholders and aggrieved members to refrain from actions or statements that could worsen internal friction following the primaries.

Obasa concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the continued development of Lagos State and the overall unity of the APC.
