Yesufu: I Begged Kwankwaso To Be Obi’s Running Mate

A prominent supporter of the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has revealed that she personally appealed to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to accept the position of Obi's running mate ahead of the last general election.

Yesufu made the disclosure in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, where she reiterated her support for a potential Obi-Kwankwaso political alliance.

According to the activist, some political developments often take longer than expected to materialise, stressing that she remains committed to the proposed partnership.

“Some things in life take longer than they should. Like the saying goes, better late than never.

“Four years ago, I literally begged @KwankwasoRM to be Peter Obi’s running mate.

“Now that it is happening, you think I am going to be distracted? No way. Let’s get it done,” she wrote.

Yesufu Questions DSS Over Sowore's Prosecution

Meanwhile, Yesufu has criticised the Department of State Services (DSS) over its role in the prosecution of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

The DSS said it instituted charges against Sowore under the Cybercrimes Act following a social media post in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as “this criminal.”

The agency further stated that Sowore’s remand was based on a court order and maintained that it neither arrested him nor opposed his bail application.

Reacting to the development, Yesufu argued that if Sowore’s statement was false or defamatory, President Tinubu should pursue legal action through the courts rather than involve the DSS.

She also questioned the agency’s priorities, noting that its attention should be focused on addressing the country's pressing security challenges.
