Controversial Nigerian content creator, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after meeting the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate Court.
Naija Brain reports that DJ Chicken was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre days after he was remanded over allegations bordering on cybercrime, breach of peace and threats to k*ll.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday via his Instagram Story.
"All glory to God. DJ Chicken," the lawyer wrote.
Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, also announced the content creator's release in a post on 𝕏, expressing satisfaction that he had reunited with his family and loved ones.
According to Sowore, no Nigerian should be subjected to oppression while others remain silent, adding that the fight against injustice must continue.
Shortly after regaining his freedom, DJ Chicken appeared in a livestream on Instagram, where he was seen smiling and interacting with his followers from inside a vehicle. His lawyer also featured in the livestream, clips of which quickly circulated across social media.
DJ Chicken was remanded after being arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State over allegations linked to a viral video in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The prosecution charged him on three counts bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making threats to kill.
According to the prosecution, the content creator also made comments suggesting that President Bola Tinubu would not be re-elected in the 2027 general election, while authorities interpreted parts of the video as threats directed at the President's son.
Following public backlash, DJ Chicken apologised for the remarks, insisting they were intended as a joke to attract attention and boost his online popularity.
Despite the apology, he was arrested and arraigned before the court, where he pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
The court subsequently granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum.
As part of the bail conditions, one surety must be a civil servant, while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both sureties were also directed to provide three years' tax clearance certificates, utility bills, National Identification Number (NIN) details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) documentation.
The court further ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings.
Although the court initially ordered his remand pending the perfection of his bail conditions, DJ Chicken has now been released after fulfilling all the requirements.
