Fast-rising Nigerian singer Fola has reflected on his inspiring journey from working as a Bet9ja cashier in Ibadan to becoming one of the country's emerging Afrobeats stars.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast, the singer revealed that he worked at a betting shop before relocating to Lagos to pursue music full-time. Looking back, he described his transformation as "mind-blowing," noting that many people in his hometown knew him only as a betting cashier before fame found him.
Fola also explained why he avoids comparing himself with other artistes, saying every musician's journey is different.
"I don't compare myself to anybody. Once I start comparing myself, my peace is gone. If you believe in yourself, you won't feel pressured," he said.
The singer credited his family's support for helping him stay focused and disclosed that his first major earnings from music were used to buy his mother a plot of land, where she later built a church.
Now one of Afrobeats' fastest-rising acts, Fola said his story is proof that perseverance and self-belief can turn humble beginnings into success.
