Nigerian socialite and reality TV personality Sophia Momodu has commenced legal proceedings against Nollywood actress Caroline Hutchings over an alleged defamatory post shared on Snapchat.

Naija Brain recalls that Caroline recently posted on Snapchat alleging that a woman she had once defended on national television was romantically involved with her former partner while they were still in a relationship.

Although Caroline did not mention anyone by name, the post quickly gained traction online, with many social media users speculating that the remarks were directed at Sophia Momodu.

In response, Sophia, through her legal counsel, Prince (Dr.) Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, SAN, of Ahonaruogho, Ahonaruogho & Co. (Paradise Law Firm), issued Caroline Hutchings a Notice of Intended Legal Proceedings.

According to the legal notice, Caroline's Snapchat publication was widely interpreted as referring to Sophia, allegedly exposing her to reputational damage, emotional distress, character attacks, and sustained cyberbullying across social media platforms.

The notice further revealed that, in an attempt to resolve the matter without litigation, Sophia personally contacted Caroline on July 3, 2026, requesting that if the post was not about her, she should issue a public clarification on Snapchat stating that Sophia was not the individual being referenced.

However, Sophia's legal team alleged that despite receiving the request, Caroline neither responded nor issued any clarification, allowing the speculation and public narrative to continue.

As part of the legal demands, Sophia is seeking an immediate retraction of the publication, an unreserved public apology to be published in national newspapers with nationwide circulation, ₦10 billion in damages for the alleged harm caused, and other reliefs.
