Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has explained why she gave her former husband a prominent role during the wedding ceremony of their daughter, Priscilla Ojo.
Naija Brain reports that the actress, while speaking during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown, said the decision was made in the interest of their daughter and to foster unity within the family.
According to Ojo, she was determined to break the cycle of failed marriages that had affected previous generations in her family.
The actress noted that many people describe such recurring family experiences as ancestral curses, stressing that she was committed to ensuring her children did not repeat the same pattern.
She revealed that her parents were separated and that her own marriage also ended in divorce, experiences that influenced her resolve to provide a different foundation for her children.
Ojo added that she made several sacrifices to ensure Priscilla enjoyed a successful and happy marriage, insisting that her former husband deserved to be present and accorded the respect due to him as the bride's father.
She said, “I made my choice to marry him, so whatever that’s going on between me and him is between us. It shouldn’t extend to the children. My parents were not together, and my marriage also failed. I decided my children would not repeat that pattern. I paid the price to make sure Priscilla succeeds and has a happy marriage. Because Priscilla’s father is alive, he deserved to be present and be honoured on her wedding day.”
