Afrobeats star Davido has reflected on the political journey of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, and how he eventually emerged as the Governor of Osun State.
The singer shared his thoughts following Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election, where the governor secured another mandate from voters.
Davido recalled how the Adeleke family became involved in the state’s political affairs and the events that eventually led to Ademola Adeleke taking up the governorship ambition.
According to the singer, the family had to make a crucial decision after the death of his elder uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, who had previously served as Osun State governor.
Davido explained that members of the family had to decide who would continue their political journey, with Ademola Adeleke eventually stepping forward to contest for the governorship.
He also recalled that he was considered too young to take on the political responsibility at the time, making Ademola the preferred choice.
Davido further highlighted his uncle’s electoral record, noting that Adeleke has never lost an election he contested, despite facing setbacks during his early attempt at becoming governor.
Adeleke first contested the Osun governorship election in 2018 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Although he was initially declared the winner, the election was later declared inconclusive, with the eventual rerun won by APC candidate Gboyega Oyetola.
He returned to the race in 2022, defeating Oyetola to become governor of Osun State.
Following his latest electoral victory, Davido’s comments have renewed interest in the Adeleke family’s political history and the journey that ultimately saw Ademola Adeleke emerge as one of Osun’s prominent political figures.
