The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the circulation of counterfeit Forxiga diabetes medication in the country.
Forxiga is used in the treatment and management of diabetes, making counterfeit versions particularly dangerous because they may fail to provide the expected treatment and could potentially put patients’ health at risk.
The regulatory agency has advised consumers to be careful when purchasing the medication and to buy only from licensed pharmacies and approved medicine outlets.
Patients should also check the product packaging and other identifying details carefully before using the medicine. Suspicious products should not be taken until their authenticity has been verified.
Anyone who encounters a suspected fake Forxiga product is encouraged to report it to NAFDAC and seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.
With counterfeit medicines posing a serious public health threat, Nigerians are advised to avoid purchasing diabetes drugs from unverified sellers or unauthorised sources.
