Catholic cleric Cardinal John Onaiyekan has raised concerns over the growing impact of unemployment and economic hardship on young Nigerians, saying many can no longer afford to think about marriage.
Speaking on the challenges facing the country's youth, the former Archbishop of Abuja said the lack of employment opportunities has made it increasingly difficult for many to achieve the financial stability needed to build a family.
According to Onaiyekan, countless young Nigerians are putting marriage plans on hold because they are unable to secure jobs or earn a sustainable income.
He stressed that beyond love and commitment, marriage requires a reasonable level of economic security, which remains out of reach for many due to the country's harsh economic conditions.
