Award-winning Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has encouraged women to prioritise self-care and pay more attention to their well-being.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, the filmmaker stated that she has learned over time that taking care of oneself is necessary and not selfish. According to her, she now makes conscious efforts to rest, pray, and care for her mental, physical, and spiritual health.
Funke noted that many women spend so much time caring for others that they often forget about themselves. She advised women to show themselves love, kindness, and attention, stressing that self-care can come in simple forms such as resting, sleeping, praying, taking a walk, or protecting one’s peace of mind.
“Over time, I’ve learned that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it’s necessary. From resting, praying, and spending time at the spa or salon to taking care of my mental, physical, and spiritual health, I’ve learned to prioritise myself too,” she wrote.
She added that women cannot continue pouring into others from an empty cup and should always make time to refill themselves emotionally and mentally.
Funke’s message comes as more celebrities continue to speak openly about mental health, self-love, and balancing career with personal well-being.

The actress has previously spoken about the importance of protecting her mental health and focusing on personal growth. In past interviews, she revealed that building her successful brand required sacrifices, including stepping away from social activities and dedicating herself fully to her career.
Funke, who has experienced public scrutiny over her past marriages, has also repeatedly advised women against rushing into marriage because of societal pressure. According to her, life experiences and personal challenges have helped shape her into a stronger and better version of herself.
