CDQ Exposes the Music Industry’s "Cult-Like" Reality for Independent Artistes

Nigerian indigenous rapper Sodiq Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, hasn’t held back on his thoughts about the music industry. Speaking in a recent interview with Jbrandy Entertainment, the Secure The Bag hitmaker claimed that securing help in the industry now requires belonging to a specific "caucus, gang, or cult."

According to CDQ, independent artists without these elite connections are playing a losing game, often pouring massive funds into their careers with zero returns. "The hardest truth about the music industry is that it has turned into a place where you have to belong to a particular caucus... before anyone can help you," he shared. He added that any independent artist who makes it big without a squad should genuinely thank God.

The Nowo E Soke star—who shot to fame in 2015 alongside Wizkid and is famous for his signature 'Woss Wobi' ad-libs—knows a thing or two about navigating the game. He has been running his own independent imprint, N.S.N.S (No Struggle No Success Entertainment), since 2016.
