How Yahaya Bello Addressed Security Challenges in Kogi State

The Kogi State Government has reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration continues to fulfill its promise to eliminate insecurity across the state.

Driven by his inaugural pledge to secure every community, Governor Bello has implemented a comprehensive security strategy combining community policing, intelligence-driven operations, and robust infrastructure investment.

Key Milestones and Outcomes Include:

  • Enhanced Security Framework: Over 3,000 local hunters and vigilantes have been recruited and trained under the Kogi State Vigilante Service, working directly alongside the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, and NSCDC.

  • Logistical Reinforcements: The government has distributed more than 500 operational vehicles and 800 motorcycles to security agencies, drastically improving response times in remote areas.

  • Advanced Technology: High-tech surveillance and communication equipment have been deployed at known flashpoints to enable early warnings and rapid interventions.

  • Community Engagement: Regular security summits involving traditional rulers, youth leaders, and local associations have significantly boosted intelligence sharing.

Commenting on these achievements, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor noted, "The Governor’s directive is clear: no community will be left unprotected. Across Kogi East, Central, and West, we are seeing a measurable decline in kidnapping, banditry, and communal clashes due to this coordinated approach."

Residents in previously vulnerable local government areas—including Dekina, Omala, Ajaokuta, and Kabba-Bunu—report renewed confidence, safely returning to farms and commercial activities.

Governor Bello reaffirmed that safety is the bedrock of economic progress. “We promised the people of Kogi that security would be non-negotiable. We are keeping that promise every day through deliberate action,” he said.

The State Government urges citizens to remain vigilant and continue sharing timely information with authorities, while expressing deep gratitude to the military, police, and paramilitary services for their unwavering dedication to peace.
