VETERAN FUJI MUSICIAN REMI ALUKO REVEALS TOTAL BLINDNESS FOLLOWING BATTLE WITH GLAUCOMA
Acclaimed Fuji musician Remi Aluko, popularly known as Igwe Fela, has opened up about his complete loss of sight, tracing it back to protracted complications from glaucoma.
The veteran artist made the poignant disclosure during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, where he detailed a years-long battle with the degenerative eye condition. Despite undergoing medical surgery and various treatment regimens to arrest the ailment, Aluko confirmed that his vision has now fully deteriorated.
"No Difference Between Me and a Blind Person"
Reflecting on his current reality, Aluko shared that his inability to see has not stop him from living a functional life. He explained that many fans and associates remain unaware of his condition because he actively rejects helplessness, choosing instead to maintain a high level of independence.
"There’s no difference between me and a blind person now," Aluko stated during the interview. "But I have learned to navigate life on my own to protect my mental health and avoid falling into depression."
Resilience Amidst Adversity
Aluko’s revelation has sent waves through the Fuji music community, sparking a flurry of supportive messages from colleagues and fans alike. Known for his high-energy performances and distinct, fast-paced vocal style, the singer emphasized that he refuses to let his physical limitations dictate his outlook on life.
By mastering his immediate environment and continuing to engage with his craft, Aluko aims to inspire others facing similar health crises, proving that a medical diagnosis does not define one's capacity for joy or productivity.
Glaucoma, often referred to as the "silent thief of sight," is a leading cause of irreversible blindness globally. Aluko’s candid admission sheds much-needed light on the condition, highlighting the importance of early detection and the psychological resilience required to cope with profound vision loss.
