I Wish People Knew Less About Me – Ayra Starr

Ayra Starr Admits She’d Be “Unemployed and Eating Her Mom’s Food” Without Music

Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr recently opened up about how drastically different her life would look without her music career. Speaking in a fresh interview with EE72, the "Sabi Girl" confessed that if fame hadn't called, she’d likely be jobless.

“If I were not doing music, I would literally be unemployed... I would just be vibing in my mother’s house, eating my mother’s food,” she joked, ruling out even content creation as "too much work."

The 24-year-old superstar (born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe) reflected on her whirlwind journey since Don Jazzy discovered her on social media and signed her to Mavin Records in 2020. She recalled the pure euphoria of finding out the legendary producer was spinning her tracks before she even signed on the dotted line.

However, global stardom has its downsides. Ayra admitted that she occasionally struggles with the spotlight, noting that her candid nature means she often regrets how much she reveals. “I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I cannot stop talking. And I feel like I overshare,” she confessed.

From a hopeful teenager to one of Nigeria’s biggest global exports, Ayra's trajectory has been historic—boasting hit albums like 19 & Dangerous and The Year I Turned 21—proving she is safely away from the unemployment line for good.
