Shaffy Bello to Young Women: "You Don't Have to Expose Your Body to Be Sexy"
Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has urged young women to stop relying on revealing outfits to boost their self-worth, arguing that true sexiness should never be equated with nudity.
Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the veteran actress addressed the intense societal pressures modern women face. The full interview, which aired on May 21, has since sparked widespread conversation across 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms.
Bello emphasized that young women do not need to chase fleeting online validation or expose themselves to be considered attractive or successful.
“There are too many young girls out there who need to hear that the seeds they sow matter,” Bello stated. “They need to hear, ‘No, you don’t have to show your boobs to be sexy.’ They need to hear, ‘No, you don’t have to shake your bum bum to go viral or get attention.’”
On Sex Work: "Do It with Respect, But Don't Stay There"
In the same interview, the movie star offered some unconventional and candid advice regarding transactional sex, or "runs." Acknowledging that economic hardships and pressing family needs—such as feeding parents or putting siblings through school—often push women into survival sex work, Bello made it clear that she does not judge them.
However, she fiercely cautioned against making it a permanent lifestyle.
“If what you are doing now is being a ‘runs girl’ to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it, I never judge," she expressed. "If you go be ashawo [prostitute], do am well. Do it well with respect and your full chest. However, don’t stay there... my darlings, don’t stay there.”
While offering a judgment-free perspective on the harsh realities of survival, Bello’s core message remained focused on long-term self-respect and finding a way out of the lifestyle once immediate financial crises are resolved.
