Fast-rising Nigerian musician Spyro has cautioned his peers and fans against the perils of sudden wealth, attributing the financial downfall of several industry colleagues to reckless spending habits and a lack of long-term planning.

The “Who’s Your Guy” crooner shared these insights during a performance over the weekend, where he reflected on the fleeting nature of fame and the financial traps that often accompany early success.

According to reports by Naija Brain, the singer highlighted lavish lifestyles—characterized by extravagant partying, constant travel, and heavily funding relationships, particularly with foreign women—as the primary reasons many artists end up broke after hitting financial milestones.

While clarifying that enjoying life and being generous are not inherently bad, Spyro warned that undisciplined spending can rapidly erase financial progress. He urged young men in the audience to prioritize financial literacy and focus on sustainable investments rather than living solely for the moment.

Reflecting on his own journey, the singer revealed that his rise to fame brought a wave of attention, with social media influencers and various individuals offering to fund luxury trips to get close to him. However, Spyro stated he intentionally declined those offers to stay grounded, focus on his craft, and make sound financial decisions.

Advising the crowd, Spyro said:

“If you are here and you are spending money on women, I think you are wasting your time. I am not saying you should not spend on your woman, but use your head.

I know some of my colleagues who went broke because they made their first bag and blew it off on parties and trips to South Africa. But I didn’t move that way, and that is why I am where I am.”

Spyro's comments add to a growing conversation within the Nigerian entertainment industry regarding financial sustainability, as more artists speak out on the importance of wealth management beyond the charts.
