Marc Cucurella Vows To Retire, Get Spain Coach's Tattoo If La Roja Beat Argentina
Spain defender Marc Cucurella has vowed to retire from international football and tattoo the face of Spain head coach, Luis de la Fuente, on his bicep if La Roja defeat Argentina in Sunday's 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The Real Madrid defender made the bold promise ahead of the final, saying there would be nothing left for him to achieve with the national team if Spain complete the double by winning both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.
"If we win the World Cup, I'll call Luis the next day and tell him not to count on me anymore, that I'm retiring from the national team," Cucurella said.
"With a European Championship and a World Cup, I can't do any better.
"I would get a little tattoo of Spain manager Luis de la Fuente's face on my bicep if we were to win the World Cup."
Naija Brain reports that the latest declaration continues Cucurella's history of making eye-catching promises before major tournaments.
Ahead of UEFA Euro 2024, the defender pledged to dye his hair red if Spain won the title. He fulfilled that promise after La Roja lifted the European Championship trophy.
However, Cucurella has previously ruled out getting a tattoo of Barcelona's crest, once saying he would rather shave his head than have the club's badge inked on his body.
Spain head into Sunday's World Cup final in outstanding form, having defeated Portugal and France before edging Belgium to secure their place in the tournament's showpiece match against defending champions Argentina.
