Fourth Batch of Evacuees Return From South Africa

More Nigerians to arrive from South Africa

The fourth batch of Nigerians evacuated from Johannesburg, South Africa, has arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The returnees arrived aboard an Air Peace evacuation flight under the Federal Government's voluntary repatriation programme.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the flight conveyed 284 passengers, comprising 272 adults, 12 infants and two government officials.

Officials of relevant government agencies were on hand to receive the evacuees upon arrival. Documentation and reception procedures have commenced, while support services are being provided to facilitate their reintegration.

The latest evacuation followed the postponement of an earlier scheduled flight after a technical fault was detected on the aircraft designated for the operation.

According to TVC News, the Air Peace aircraft was unable to depart from Johannesburg after cracks were discovered on the cockpit windscreen during routine pre-flight safety checks.

The airline subsequently suspended the flight as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew before rescheduling the evacuation.
