British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has disclosed that Anthony Joshua rejected offers worth several million dollars more in favour of pursuing a potential blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury in the United Kingdom.
The highly anticipated showdown between British heavyweight stars Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has remained one of boxing’s biggest potential fights, but negotiations and differences over their respective career plans have repeatedly delayed the bout.
Speaking to iFL TV, British promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Joshua could have earned millions more by agreeing to stage the fight in the United States but instead chose to prioritise having the blockbuster clash in Britain.
Hearn also criticised UFC president Dana White for attempting to get involved in the negotiations, insisting that his focus has been on ensuring the terms of an existing agreement are respected.
“Dana White has tried to get involved in a fight that he has nothing to do with,” Hearn said.
“All we have ever done is say, ‘We’ve signed our contract. Just honour the contract that we’ve signed.’
“Anthony Joshua could have taken many millions more to do the fight in America. We want the fight in Britain.
“The support that we’ve had on social media, my social media, A.J.’s social media, has made us double down on our principles on this. We’re not trying to hurt the fight.”
