Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has declared that the 2027 elections should mark the end of what he described as “baba sope criminality,” urging voters to choose a governor who is accountable to the people.
Rhodes-Vivour emphasized that the decision on who becomes governor rests solely with Lagos residents, not any single individual or group.
He made this statement in response to reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had been asked to resign due to health concerns—claims that were subsequently denied by the Lagos State government.
Reiterating his stance, Rhodes-Vivour warned against concentrating political power in the hands of a few, arguing that such control undermines the will of the people.
In a post on X, he wrote that it is misguided for the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to assume Lagosians have lost their agency.
He criticized what he described as a system where decisions about leadership are dictated by “one man and a group of kleptocrats,” calling it unacceptable.
According to him, only the people of Lagos have the authority to choose their leaders and determine when they should be replaced.
He concluded by urging voters to reclaim their power in 2027, stressing the need to elect a governor who is accountable and committed to serving all Lagosians.
