ACF Rejects Peter Obi’s One-Term Promise, Calls It ‘Undemocratic and Unfair’

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has criticized the single-term pledge made by Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, labeling it unfair to the electorate ahead of the 2027 elections. Obi has repeatedly stated in media interviews that he intends to serve only four years before handing power over to the North.

However, speaking with Daily Post, ACF National Secretary Tukur Baba strongly rejected the promise, calling it unnecessary, undemocratic, and unconstitutional. Baba argued that zoning and power-shifting are not constitutional mandates but rather political party arrangements that ultimately foster national division.

"The more we stick to the power shift, the more we embrace division among us," Baba stated, warning that the practice could eventually split the country along religious lines.

Furthermore, Baba argued that if Obi were to perform exceptionally well—such as tackling banditry and terrorism within his first two years—it would be irresponsible and unfair to voters to step down after just one term. He concluded that Nigeria urgently needs good governance, accountability, and security, rather than region-based politics that pull the country backward.
